OBAMA BUYS INTO MASSIVE ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN

Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama has made an unprecedented ad buy just days before the election. The Obama campaign purchased a 30 minute prime time television slot on at least two major networks. In addition to the major networks, the 30 minute production will most certainly be picked up by all the major cable news networks as well. This creates a massive audience for Obama in the week leading up to election day. By law, the major networks also must offer the same amount of time to John McCain, although it is doubtful that his campaign would have the resources to pay for that allotment of time. This is in part a piece of the Obama strategy. By forcing McCain to extend his resources, he will make it more difficult for the McCain campaign to target necessary battlegrounds in essence spreading the McCain campaign thin. Obama is expected to spend nearly $90 million in advertising between now and election day, this is nearly the same amount as John McCain can spend during the entire election due to the fact he opted for federal financing. Barack Obama's choice to not take public financing has served him well and could be a determining catalyst in the coming weeks as election day draws near. The Obama campaign is currently outspending the RNC and the McCain campaign by a 2-1 ratio in some areas and a 3-1 ratio in others.
